The Breville Oracle Jet is an automatic (volumetric) with ThermoJet heating and a 58mm portafilter, typically $2,000–$2,300. It grinds, doses and brews in one appliance, so it needs no separate grinder. It suits buyers who want 58mm without assembling a setup and hands-off milk drinks. It is the wrong choice for enthusiasts who want manual control and anyone who would rather split the budget across machine and grinder.
How it fits
Preinfuse ratings, not measurements. Each one is produced by published rules from the specifications below — open any row to see which facts moved it.
What it does well
- 58mm portafilter with an integrated grinder — a combination almost nothing else offers.
- 45 grind settings, the finest resolution of any Breville integrated grinder.
- Hands-free milk texturing with alternative-milk settings.
- Cold extraction produces cold brew in minutes rather than overnight.
- ThermoJet heating, so no warm-up wait despite the capability.
Where it gives ground
- Costs as much as a dual boiler plus a very good standalone grinder.
- No documented simultaneous brew and steam, unlike the Dual Boiler.
- The grinder is still integrated, so the usual upgrade path is closed.
- Nearly 15 inches tall — check wall cabinets.
Buy it for
- Buyers who want 58mm without assembling a setup
- Hands-off milk drinks
- Cold-brew households
- Fast mornings at the top of the market
Look elsewhere if
- Enthusiasts who want manual control
- Anyone who would rather split the budget across machine and grinder
- Back-to-back milk service at volume
Decided?
The grinder is built in, so this is the whole machine side of the decision.

Living with it
Choose a drink. The machine grinds, doses and tamps into a 58mm basket, brews, and textures the milk without supervision.
Before you buy
The real question at this price is automation versus capability. A Dual Boiler plus a Niche Zero costs similar money, brews and steams at once, and will outlast the software — but you do all the work.
Cold extraction is a genuine differentiator if you drink cold coffee half the year, and irrelevant if you do not.

Identity1
- Machine type
- Automatic (volumetric)
Sets how much of the shot you control. Semi-automatic machines ask you to grind, dose and time; super-automatics do all of it behind a button. Neither is better in the abstract — they suit different mornings.
Classified as automatic: grinding, dosing and milk texturing are machine-controlled.
Heating & temperature3
- Heating system
- ThermoJet
- Brew and steam at once
- No
- PID temperature control
- No
The single biggest structural difference between espresso machines. Thermoblock and thermocoil designs heat water on demand, so they are ready in seconds but cannot brew and steam at once. A heat exchanger or dual boiler can do both simultaneously, at the cost of a long warm-up and a higher price.
Decides whether you wait between pulling a shot and texturing milk. It matters most if you make several milk drinks back to back, and barely at all if you drink straight espresso.
Breville does not document simultaneous brewing and steaming for the Oracle Jet.
A PID holds brew water within a narrow band instead of letting a thermostat swing around a target. It makes shots repeatable day to day; it does not by itself make coffee taste better.
Not documented by Breville for this model.
Brewing3
- Portafilter diameter
- 58 mm
- Baskets supplied
- Both pressurised and non-pressurised
- Pre-infusion
- Automatic low-pressure
58mm is the commercial standard, so baskets, tampers and distribution tools are easy to find and often better made. 54mm and 51mm work perfectly well but the accessory market is smaller. It changes what you can buy later far more than it changes what is in the cup.
Pressurised baskets fake crema and forgive a bad grind, which is why they ship with beginner machines. Non-pressurised baskets reward a good grinder and are what you graduate to. A machine supplying both lets you start easy and progress without buying parts.
Breville supplies single- and dual-wall baskets across its espresso range.
Wetting the coffee gently before full pressure helps the puck settle so water does not carve a channel through it. Most machines that offer it do so automatically and briefly; programmable pre-infusion is a control-lover's feature.
Documented across the Breville espresso range.
Milk & steam2
- Steam wand
- Automatic
- Steam source
- Shared with brew circuit
An assisted wand froths milk reliably but produces bubbles rather than the dense microfoam latte art needs. A manual wand can make genuinely good milk but has a learning curve. An automatic wand hits a set temperature and texture without you standing over it.
A dedicated steam boiler gives dry, powerful steam and no waiting. A shared circuit has to switch modes, which is why single-boiler machines make you pause between shot and milk.
Breville does not document a dedicated steam boiler for this model.
Grinding3
- Grinder included
- Yes
- Integrated grind settings
- 45
An integrated grinder saves counter space and a separate purchase, and gets a beginner running immediately. The trade-off is that you cannot upgrade the grinder without replacing the machine, and integrated burrs are usually a step below a good standalone grinder at the same total spend.
How many discrete grind positions the built-in grinder offers. More positions means finer control over shot speed.
Practicalities4
- Depth
- 14.2"
- Height
- 14.9"
- Housing material
- Brushed stainless steel
Counter depth. The number that most often catches people out, because standard cabinets leave limited clearance.
Overall height. Check it against wall cabinets, and remember the water tank often has to come out from the top.
Stainless steel housings feel and last differently from moulded plastic, and cost accordingly.
Compared with the obvious alternatives
The Oracle Jet is ahead on being forgiving to learn on and speed in the morning. The Dual Boiler is ahead on control over the shot and milk performance. Neither is wrong — pick the one whose strength is the thing you actually care about. The Dual Boiler also costs less, at $1,500–$1,700.
